With a name derived from the first Glam tree to grow in this area, Kampong Glam was the historic location of the kingdom Malays in Singapore. At present, the location was once the Palace of Kampong Glam (Sultan’s palace), now has turned into a cultural history museum called the Malay heritage Center, to display the rich history and culture of Singapore Malays. Building and architecture has been carefully restored, to keep the uniqueness and originality.
In addition there are Interior Sireh Palace, a restaurant in a bungalow which has been renovated, offers halal food that has a cultural show in the area of this fascinating and historic. If you’re lucky, you might be having dinner with the guests of a wedding-style Melayu kingdom!
An important building in Kampong Glam is the Sultan Mosque (or Masjid Sultan) is located in Bussorah Street, Singapore’s largest mosque with a capacity of more than 5,000 Muslims at prayer. Built in 1928, this mosque has a giant golden dome, and is one of the most impressive religious institutions in Singapore.
In front of the mosque is Bussorah Mall, where the shop houses have been renovated to sell a variety of clothing, antiques, handicrafts, furniture and jewelry. Or continue to Kandahar Street to sample the various flavors of traditional Malays.
Arab Street is the center of the Muslim community, and the former principal place of cap sales Muslim men (called skull cap), the holy Quran, prayer mats and textiles. One of nature’s imitation facility is the Jurong Bird Park. Bird park covering 20 hectares located in the middle of the Jurong industrial area. He can be regarded as a successful imitation of nature. Trees and shrubs grow thick. While the small birds who accidentally seen flying freely moving among them.
Some copies did look odd. For example an artificial tree made of huge concrete. It seems to imitate the trees as we commonly encounter in the forests of Borneo.
However, some other artificial, like a high waterfall, completely original look like natural creations. Natural atmosphere of calm around the waterfall is reinforced by the emergence of fog in between the leaves and along the artificial river. We seem to be in the middle of the mountain nature. Do not be surprised, it was too artificial fog, which is forced from a blower is hidden among the plants.
Although entirely artificial, no denying that the natural atmosphere in the bird park are felt. One possible cause, is the concept of an open cage, which is used for several types of birds. Some birds such as parrots, cockatoos, pigeons and flamingos, placed in the cage open. It really is not separate from nature.
That said, the birds were actually sometimes not, and they could have a bird flew out of the park if they want. Not a physical barrier with the wilderness had also brought the entry of wild birds.
In the pool intended for flamingos, for example, in the afternoon often seen various other bird species, which settled down to rest on the edge of the water before nightfall.
